felt and crochet yourself and apartment

I won't lie, when I first saw this picture, I was looking more specifically at the benches and trying to figure out if we could easily do that ourselves in our own apartment, if it would be easier than this long journey of getting ahold of some palettes (which by the way a student of mine offered to give us some from his business... just before he went on vacation (the week before i'm going on vacation... so thats been put on hold).

so as i was looking at the benches in the picture and looking around our own apartment as I looked at the picture again I noticed the awesome and how could you have missed it the first time bright rug in the center of the photo. it turns out that it is braided and felted wool, and it's just one piece made by fashion designer Dana Barnes, who began making them solely based on the need to soundproof her warehouse studio apartment for her young children. through pinterest I found this blog post and through that blog this post on the new york times site.

you should go check out all of the awesome photos and the story at the times site.

a jackson pollack

Julton and I are slowly... and I mean slowly decorating/filling up our apartment. Its okay too that we are going slowly... that way later if we are moving we don't have to give away/get rid of a lot of stuff.

I recently found this post on  A Little Bit Weird.com where they made their own Jackson Pollack painting! And to my surprise as we were watching the video Julton responded with, hey let's do that!

So... very soon I will share our new piece of art with you!

a sofa? a sofa.

First a small note: If you are reading perandom and also this one :Thank you! Now, if you are doing that you will notice that this post happened there also. Thats because... I decided to put it in both places. Its a part of our lives... and a little crafty, so that I saw it appropriate to put it here too, hopefully little by little more of the posts here will be things we are doing ourselves!

Now onto it...

Who needs a sofa or couch when you can make your own "artesianal sofa" with your own blankets/tapestries/pillows? :D

Since we moved from a furnished apartment into a not so furnished apartment... weve been in lack of a couch. And we haven't really been set in high gear getting one either, for several reasons. We don't have a lot of time together at a good time of the day to go look... and we just don't to shell out much money for a couch we arent sure how long we will use. So Julton had an idea for his "artesianal sofa" and pulled out blankets and pillows and my -favorite- i might add, tapestry. It works for us :)
